We caught this movie and boy, what a great one it is! I want to watch it again and again and again!
What an impact Meryl made with this song; it sent chills down my spine when she sang it.

This is the song that did it for me. Chiaki plays a Rachmaninoff piece with the orchestra.

One day in Nihon, sister and I were watching the telly where there was a variety show introducing the J-dorama, Nodame Cantabile.
It seemed interesting so we plugged it as a to-watch show once we return.
Nodame Cantabile:
Shinichi Chiaki [Hiroshi Tamaki], is Momogaoka College of Music’s top student. Born into a musical family, he is talented in piano and violin and has secret ambitions to become a conductor. An arrogant multi-lingual perfectionist who once lived abroad in the music capitals of the world as a young boy, he feels mired in Japan because of a childhood phobia.
Megumi Noda [Ueno Juri], or “Nodame” is a piano student at Momogaoka College of Music. An extremely talented pianist who wants to be a kindergarten teacher, she prefers playing by ear rather than reading the music score. She is messy and disorganized, takes baths several days apart and loves to eat, sometimes stealing her friend’s lunchbox when it is filled with delicacies.
They meet by accident. Noda quickly falls in love, but it takes much longer for Chiaki to even begin to appreciate Noda’s unusual qualities. Their relationship causes them both to develop and grow. Because of Noda, Chiaki got the opportunity to lead a student orchestra and begins to have a broader appreciation of people’s musical abilities. Because of Chiaki, Noda faces her fears and enters a piano competition. Opportunities open up as both begin taking risks, stretching themselves far more than they ever thought possible.

Melbourne has a wide variety of cuisine [though not as much as Sg of course].
The first four days of Melb life was miserable as I was down with stomach flu, throwing up whatever that can be thrown up. So just imagine how miserable it was ‘cos all dinners were fully sponsored, along with free flow of..hmm..whatever you want. And I could barely eat or drink anything.
SULK.

[Never thought I'll be doing a food entry.]
A couple of us met up for dinner at Aston on Saturday evening.
The place was crowded and there was a queue when we arrived. Thank goodness for two of them who reached slightly earlier and were already in the queue. Arigatou gozaimasu!
Most of us ordered the prime ribeye xtracut, which is reasonably priced at SGD15.90.
Grouses:The waiters look really confused and blur, fumbling around with our orders several times over before getting everything right.
A friend’s xtracut was more than medium rare and he kept poking at the bloody tough meat [pun intended] in consternation throughout the meal.
But mine was done just fine.

Yummy goodness. I love steak. Steak is good.
We headed down to Ice Cream Chefs thereafter. As you can see, I didn’t spend much time taking photos, but decided to enjoy the company and conversation instead.

He was doing a manicure for her.
All in all, I’d say I give 4 out of 5 stars for food, 2 stars for atmosphere [it was really difficult for proper convos in the noisy place], 1 star for location [ahem], 4 stars for [relative] price and 2.5 stars for service at Aston.
As for Ice Cream Chefs, 3.5 stars for food, 3 stars for atmosphere, 1 star for location, 3.5 stars for [relative] price and 3.5 stars for service. Overall pleasant experience.

Every now and then you hear a[n obscure or not very well-known] song and it’s so hauntingly beautiful and sad it breaks your heart.
‘Falling Awake’ by Gary Jules - The scene where they took Mr O’Malley Snr off life support.
‘Ache’ by James Carrington - This song was in ‘Smallville’.
‘Only Human’ by K - From ‘One Litre of Tears’.
‘Run’ by Snow Patrol - I chanced upon this song by accident recently. Popular song, but thought I’ll just put it in here anyway ‘cos it’s nice.

Oh. My.They are going to make a production out of my favourite book.IcannotwaitIcannotwaitIcannotwait.
“The Time Traveler’s Wife” is a tale of impossible time travel cum classic love story which addresses some of the most complex ideas - marriage, love, children, friends, literary and artistic allusions, religion, death, drugs, childhood, growing, loss, what it means to be human, and most importantly, the essence of time itself - and weaves them together poetically and with amazing clarity.
It is one of the most moving and spellbounding story I have ever come across. The movie has better live up to the novel.

Been drowning myself in Buffy the Vampire Slayer series lately.
I like BTVS since a long time ago, from the first episode in fact. It’s not simply a fluff show about make-believe monsters and vampires and good-looking students on campus. Yes, it is about a world of horror and fantasy, but the ongoing subplots do not feel like storylines. They feel like people’s lives. Real. Gritty. School, joy, love, pain, change, suffering, life, it is a series that speaks to viewers because they can relate to it.
Anyway. There was one episode from season 2 I missed when BTVS was screening on the telly some 9 [-_-"] years back, and I caught it a couple of days ago. On its own, it is a normal ghost love story. But taking into account the history of Buffy [the slayer. duh] and Angel [the cursed vampire] all the episodes before that, watching this episode was like seeing poetic dramatic irony unfold before your eyes, hauntingly beautiful but tragic, in many ways more than one. Read the storyline here.
At the climax of the show where ghost James possessed Buffy and ghost Grace [girlfriend of James] possessed Angelus [ex-lover of Buffy and had turned evil], the intensity of it took my breath away. The multi-layered relationships that were developing all at the same time - James and Grace, Buffy and James, Buffy and Angel, Buffy and Angelus… Wow.. Little wonder critics claimed Josh Whedon’s a genius. It’s hard to explain, I guess one got to watch the series from the beginning to truly understand the beauty of this episode.
Listen to the exchange [Sorry, can't find one with subtitling. Neither am I able to embed these two].
