Association of Bloggers?
Posted on Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 at 11:40 amWhat next? Regulated blogs, perhaps?
The newly announced Association of Bloggers Singapore have been creating a lot of hoo-ha within the blogosphere, most of it really funny.

More funny stuff ahead.

One of my favourite bloggers, Tinker Tailor who gives 10 reasons to join the association.

Poking fun at the elitist statement of ECL.

The famous Rockson Tan who wrote a hilarious entry about it.

Even Godfather of blogging, mrbrown, joined in.

I think he can’t stop sniggering at the idea. Lol.

And queen of gaming, Qiaoyun’s, input.
Fellow plurkers also participated enthusiasically…

I went to their website to find out more about the AoB(S) but saw this instead.
You would have also realized that we have provided very little information in this site…….. A hint for you though, there are some pretty interesting ideas the committee brainstormed for the website. Or, can I say it’s more than a website?
A hint that is not a hint. I think they redefined the meaning of ‘vague’. This is way beyond ‘creating suspense’.
It feels like they have prematurely announced the birth of AoB(S), seeing how little they can say about it. What’s up with all the secrecy? Why set up a temporary site when a proper site could have been done up in due time? Could have been better executed I guess - a case of Marketing gone wrong?
Besides..

Picture from here and on plurk.
Doesn’t this scream of elitism? A list? Based on what? On how well-known an applicant is? Or whether the ‘Council’ knows the applicant personally? Shouldn’t an association of whichever represented people be inclusive rather than exclusive?
I think this is the thing that really did it.
The AoB(S) is [most probably] set up with good intentions but perhaps it really need a better spokesperson to neutralise the growing fire instead of fanning it larger.
[Shucks, my entry is getting increasingly serious and negative, which is not the initial intention.]
Lastly, I agree with Uncle Jaywalk’s views on the AoB(S), though I really do not need the “3 bottles of wine from sexy chiobus selling them out of their Mercedes’ car boot“. Teaching me how to deal with my blog? How to get my blog/me famous? Footing out $110 for being in the Association and not knowing what I am paying for [a platform to network?]? Urm… thanks but no thanks. Maybe the current AoB(S) will work for some, but I prefer my blog to be a free-wheeling, free-spirited one.
