Monkey Business
Half a minute away from where I stay, there is a small quiet road with little traffic. There is only one bus service that passes by the roundabout road, and the only people who pass by are residents.
Some time this week, my mum told me that a tree along the said road is generating quite a bit of news as part of the tree trunk has formed in a way such that it resembles two monkeys. Apparently a guy crashed his car into the tree and the bark fell off, revealing the interesting monkey-like shapes.
I was too busy to go check it out then despite my curiosity, but mum will update me on it whenever she catches me at home. -_-”
Just before the terp interviews today, I trooped down with my [new! ok, not so new anymore] cammie to kaypoh check out the scene.
I can already see the crowd from a distance away.

Woah.

Here’s the famous tree uh huh uh huh. I must admit the forms really do look monkeyish.

Stuff pasted on the tree.

More monkey photos.

And more.

Photo-taking galore.

Lotsa bananas and peanuts for the tree monkeys.

The crowd offering incense.

Too many people, yikes.

I was close to the burning incense and somebody pushed me from behind [thus the blurry shot], causing my face to be inches away from the incense, which made my eyes tear painfully immediately. My hair! My face! My eyes! The perils of photo-taking, boo.

This is on the higher part of the tree which some people speculated that it will become a monkey form in time to come. Hmm. [No more hanging of Sg flag, it's mid-Sept!]

What are all these people pointing at?

There’s a tree besides the Monkey God tree which has a carving that looks like Guan Yin, Goddess of Mercy.

People were pointing, and gesturing and describing to others how and where to see it, but why do I not see it?? Where?? That doesn’t look like Guan Yin! *whine*

As crowded as Orchard Road, wei.

There were policemen guiding the traffic and three ice-cream sellers making booming business. I saw some monks sitting in the shade and a man was giving out the incense sticks foc to the public. News articles about the trees were also displayed.

Fumblin’ along, trippin’ along. The third tree has a lot of Indians crowding around it. On one side of the tree, there is another monkey-like shape [Darn out of point but this monkey looks really kawaii....]. On the other side, an elephant-like shape was protruding out of the trunk.

Baby monkey with an egg.

The elephant. Everyone was touching the tree trunk and saying their prayers.

I know this does not look elephant-like here, I think it’s the angle. I’m a bad photographer, so sue me.
After getting my face pushed into the incense and feet stuck in the soft soil, I decided enough is enough, and left the place, smelling of burning incense and freshly-cut grass.
So endeth the monkey saga, for now.
