Me [earnestly]: So what is there to do at Queensland? *having clubbing or vineyards or picnics or roadtrips in mind*
Himura Kenshin [deadpanned]: Oh, lots. Sometimes we play with the kangeroos.
Me: ???
Himura Kenshin [still straight-faced]: Or the cows, there are lots of them there. Or if we are really bored, we talk to the dogs around.
Me: …..

Moving Forward

I know this is a super delayed thing to post but.. yeah.. was watching the Channel 5 news on TV mobile just now and I suddenly thought, yay, captionings! It’s not that I’m unaware of the development, but it just hit me… 2 months into the take-off. SADeaf has been requesting for this for the looonngest time. Guess Eunice [Olsen]’s involvement, research and ‘fighting’ in the Parliament for the past 2 years have helped in a super significant way; so glad Ichitaka and I approached her and brought up the issue [not just take pictures with her] that day. Yay! Thank you, Eunice!!

“MEDIACORP IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT FROM 25 SEPTEMBER 2006, TV VIEWERS WILL BE ABLE TO READ WHAT THE NEWS PRESENTER IS SAYING.”The captions which are the scripts for prepared news stories, will appear at the same time as the presenter reads the news. We have introduced the captioning service, provided with the support of the Media Development Authority (MDA), in response to requests from the general public and the deaf community.

English news will kick off the captioning service on 25 September with the 9:30pm news bulletin on Channel 5. Chinese news at 10pm on Channel 8 and Malay news at 8pm on Suria will introduce captions later in December 2006. We are still exploring options for captions on Tamil news.

I am happy, but I am also sad.

When it comes to celebrations and social functions, xtomic is very big and enthusiastic on them.

So during the weekend over at our Downtown East chalet, my family and I played hosts to them ["Some hostess you are, you're always on the phone!" complained Pawprintz. Oops.] as they came trooping down in small batches. Yay~

The first group that came down had great ambitious plans. Within minutes of stepping into the chalet, someone concussed on the bed.

Secretly I felt like doing the same, seeing how I only slept at 4plus that morning. The remaining four of us decided to play mj but..
Mj set - check
Mj table - check
Enough people - check
Chairs - errr…..

Desperation Creativity took over and Mel hit on the idea of playing outside between the two BBQ tables, one of us to use the chalet bench and one to erm. maybe stand up. Or something. And we were under the hot sun. -_-” But ANyhow, we decided to be sensible and borrowed stools from the neighbouring chalet for an hour. No repeat of last year’s grand theft incident, thank goodness.

Looking yonder at something, someone?

Yeah, I know I look funny but it’s because of the too-big-for-my-head borrowed cap, the sun and the.. Nevermind, ok ok, I look funny.

But great plans don’t always proceed accordingly. All of us forgot how to play, horrors, and thus wasted a significant amount of time debating if we should go in a clockwise or an anti-clockwise direction. So hopeless, hur hur. Bowling plans were also out as the alley was nowhere to be found, so the lot of us escaped to Escape Theme Park after the mj session.

December is a time for reunions, because everyone returns from whichever countries they are residing / studying in.

Oh Dom, I am so sorry. Remember how we used to have to cheer you up traumatise you distract you and fight for you the previous times you return? Everything seemed so opposite this time. Down the rabbit hole and into a strange wonderland. This time you have to be the strong one. This time you were the one giving out tight hugs and comforting words. This time you were the one wiping the tears away from our faces. This time you were the one with our burdens on your shoulders.

But there were funny and heartwarming moments too. I’m sure the aghast look on my face when I first caught sight of you was priceless. How we appeared at the dinner table at Maxwell Market, one by one; you are that link that connects all of us. The two flamings that you took with Jo. Getting singled out by Pam Oei - “that group over there, are you drunk already?” - during her performance [I think you were too far gone to remember that]. How Chris was so disgusted by all of us girls dancing close to him. You jumping madly around the dance floor [as usual]. The kidnapping of your different accessories and clothes. Scheming to get Jo’s boyfriend to dance with her. And more…

I hope you have enjoyed yourself, really, despite all the drama and emotional stuff going around. Wednesday, so soon, too soon. Time is so short, it doesn’t wait for Hellos and Goodbyes and I Miss Yous and Let’s Meet Ups. And we are all pawns of it, being shuffled and thrown around against our will.

I really did miss you, and I will miss you [ok, now I'm sounding like I'm gonna swing the other way hur hur]. Please take care, be happy, be strong. See you in Melb in winter, or wherever you will by then. *hugs*
