Take a Chill Pill

s t a r m | s t June 30th, 2005

It’s amazing how some people can embellish and exaggerate the truth just to get people over the other side for the own gratification.

Feeling all disillusioned with people and volunteer work, I decided to meet up with some of my favourite people this evening for dinner and drinks (you guys are alcoholics! I’ve enough of alcohol).

The two silly fruits acting up when all I want to do is to take a good picture with them. I know, I know, I know I look horrible and fat.

them

A much better picture (though I still look fat).

A typical conversation with them goes something like this.

Attempting to traumatise Dom
Beebs: and my boyfriend…
Dom [interrupting]: You have a boyfriend??
Beebs: Yes, why?
Dom [confounded]: You have a boyfriend??? Since when?!!
Me: Let me tell you about him. He has red, disgusting curly hair..
Dom [giving the what-the-hell-is-going-on look]: What? Where did this guy pop [mimed comical popping action] up from???
Beebs: He likes to put on really whitish make up too.
Dom: What!!
Me: And he always dresses in bright yellow overalls…
Rei [turning to me]: Hey, don’t be jealous just because her boyfriend has red hair and yours has white hair.
Me [bewildered]: Eh?
Beebs: Ahh, yes! Your smiley guy with his big big specs who likes to fry chicken.
Me: Oh! Actually that’s not my boyfriend, he’s my sugar daddy. He’s quite old, you know.
Dom [finally traumatised]: You guys are all so wrong, you know, you guys are all so wrong.

Thanks, Dom, for the butterscotch schnapps!

Mistakes Everybody Make

s t a r m | s t June 29th, 2005

I hate conflicts, I really do. Especially when they have nothing to do with me and yet people come to me and expect *snap fingers* solutions (or least, me to do something about it). O cursed spite, that I was born to set things right.

I guess conflicts within a group are inevitable; group dynamics and all that jazz. But still, things are being blown out of proportion, and they’ve only just begun.

If I react (with the intention of helping duh), the situation will get worse, I know it. The mind works in strange ways, and people often think the worst of others when they are, in fact, blind to their own faults. On the other hand, if I be passive and not do anything, it is as if I’m just sitting and watching a man get beaten up by gangsters simply because he - I don’t know - spat on the ground? There is no good way about it. There is no appropriate path to walk on. This sense of helplessness, I dislike it.

I supposed I could always say “??????????.” because ????????????.

But someone close to me is caught near in the eye of this storm, and I feel that this misunderstood person doesn’t deserve all those accusations, and the crap that is yet to come. And I’m not biased, I’m on neutral ground, really.

How good it would be if everyone just mind their own business and not be so antagonistic.

Tough Choices

s t a r m | s t June 26th, 2005

While finishing up the drinks after dinner

Dad: Let me give you a choice. If the bill’s below $100, you will treat us to this dinner. If it’s above $100, then I will treat.
Sister [giving the mad why-do-I-have-to-pay look]: Wha-aat!!??

Dad [feeling all magnanimous]: Alright, alright, nevermind. I’ll give you a second choice. How about.. you pay if it is above $100, ok?
Sister: No… I may have to end up paying much more then!

Dad [deadpan]: Ok lah, I’ll provide you with a third choice since I’m so nice. If it’s above $100, you pay. If it’s below, you pay.
Sister and I [in perfect unison]: That is not even a choice!

After a minute of calculating the odds
Sister [with loads of uncertainty in her weak, trembling voice]: I.. will… pay…. if it’s above $100……

When heading out of the restaurant
Sister whooped really loudly and jumped excitedly in front of a startled me, patting her chest in relief. I took a look at the bill.

$97.03.

Gentle Spirit is Thy Name

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly, because you tread on my dreams.

Lie To Me

s t a r m | s t June 21st, 2005

Lead me, save me
from my solitude and frustrations…

Giles: You mean life?
Buffy: Yeah. Does it get easy?
Giles: What do you want me to say?
Buffy: Lie to me.
Giles: Yes, it’s terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and, uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever get hurt, and everybody lives happily ever after.
Buffy: Liar.
